Phnom Penh is a Japanese instrumental band. Their first single « Joy » is a perfectmix between no wave and balearic disco. In the lineage of the Yellow Magic Orchestra, Phnom Penh cheerfully mixes synth arpeggiators, drum machines & live instruments. Nirosta Steel is the playground of Steven Hall of Arthur’s Landing, improv, songs/instrumental, sketches/happenings, in collaboration with various friends. « There’s a Word » was written by Ernie Brooks, one of the undiscovered greats of American pop songwriting. « Dark Blue » is the Xmas song that Steven always wanted to write, improvised and recorded in one take last Xmas morning in Florida. The sleeve was designed by M/M (Paris) the famous artistic creation agency founded in 1992, and who provided artwork and graphic universe for Björk, Kanye West, Benjamin Biolay, or Stay+ among others. Hoosky, it’s oOgo and Chomsk’, two members of La Fine Equipe, a dj’ing and beatmaking crew that’s been hustling dance floors with their electro hip-hop sound since 2003. In 2008, La Fine Equipe’s first instrumental album « LA BOULANGERIE » (The Bakery), brought together the new wave of French beatmakers (Mister Modo, Onra, Quetzal…). The soul, jazz, rock and reggae, samples were reworked in the vein of J Dilla & Madlib’s avant-garde styles and caught the attention of many DJs and tastemakers. The Joubert Singers – Stand On The Word Remixes (Favorite Recordings / 12inch / Available April 23rd / FVR069)

Originally recorded live in the First Baptist Church in Crown Heights, NYC, in 1982 under Celestial Choir and pressed only for the congregation, it was then enlighted by Walter Gibbons, who acquired a copy and played it out at the 7th av. Rock and Soul shop, where he worked. The Joubert Singers’ version is a re-recording done for Next Plateau, recently officially reissued on Favorite Recordings (FVR067), as it was originally. Favorite now follows-up with this new 12inch, including the famous Larry Levan Mix and new brilliant and unique remixes by Patchworks, 7 Samurai aKa Panoptikum Arkestra and Walter Mecca. Following the recent release of their 2nd longplayer, « 180.000 Miles & Counting », The Dynamics are back in 2012 with a dope remixes package of their new single « For the Love of Money ». We couldn’t resist to ask the mysterious bootleg Kings 7 Samurai (GAMM) to do a remix, and he turned the track in a massive Reggae-Disco version. There are lots of Steel Funk recordings by huge orchestras from Trinidad and other Caribbean islands. We were wondering what would become « For The Love of Money » in their hands, the answer is given by the master of Deep Funk, The Mighty Mocambos, with the participation of the Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band. The Joubert Singers – Stand On The Word (Favorite Recordings/ 12inch / Available February 13th / FVR067)

Stand On The Word was first ever recorded live in the First Baptist Church in Crown Heights, NYC, in 1982. Soon after the church pressed up a couple of hundred copies for the congregation, a couple of blocks away from Walter Gibbons’ Jus Born recording studios. Walter Gibbons must be credited to have revealed this Phyllis McKoy Joubert song to New York most discerning DJs and soulful dance music aficionados, as it quickly became a Garage, Loft and Zanzibar club classic and ended up remixed by Tony Humphries for this wider release. The idea behind this re-edition was also for people who weren’t able to afford the original to at least enjoy it on a 12inch vinyl. WALKO is a band from Nantes, France, which draws inspiration from the work of Fela Anikulapo KUTI the creator of the afrobeat, where its sources could be found in jazz, funk or highlife… Walko gets its musical eclectism from its members coming from Caribbean, Africa, Asia and France. Sanguebom presents « SAMURAÏ », a little jewel of dub, tinted with melodica and classical guitar. On this track, he invites the preacher MC Jahguidi, who chants his truths in music, exactly like Prince Far I would do it. If the late Gil Scott Heron sang “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised” in 1970, Jahguidi, continues the revolution here and pays tribute to the roots of music from his elders, with all the love and peace from a samurai warrior. “Samurai” is the first single from the album “BLACK STAR LINE”, produced by Sanguebom and due for release on the first quarter 2012. Brand new release on Zion Gate Music Label! This recording is the first of a series of reggae covers of soul classics to get released. Chistine Miller is a UK based recording artist. She does a wonderful rendition of Marvin Gaye’s all time classic: Inner City Blues. The Zion Gate Players provide the backing, somewhere between soul and reggae with a touch of blues.
