Lee McDonald was born in Norfolk Virginia in 1942 and started singing at the age of 13 in various groups, school talent shows and on gospel radio stations. He had always admired artists such as Smokey Robinson and the Four Tops but his main influence for his singing style was Cuba Gooding of The Main Ingredient.
In 1969 Lee came to New York where he sang in nightclubs, hotels and various local bands. Lee also recorded demos with a group called « August Heat ». Then one day in a rehearsal studio in Brooklyn NY, he met Ron Foster the man responsible for writing and arranging many of the tracks on Lee McDonald’s « Sweet magic » album on Debbie Records. Ron Foster also wrote Lee’s first professional 45 on Debbie Records called « Little things » b/w « Memories » which didn’t feature on the album.
Pascal Rioux (Favorite) and Ron Foster met in Philly few years ago and decided to work on some new releases, re-edits and remixes of Lee McDonald’s best tracks ever. Lee’s cover of Carpenters classic « We’ve Only Just Begun » was the first release on Favorite, with different versions by TM Juke, Patchworks and Grant Phabao.
